The Big String #thebigstring 13 & 14 February 2017

Following on from the success of last yearís Fiddlers Hill You are invited to join us for a celebration of string playing.

Gloucestershire Academy of Music is joining with Cotswold Music Tutors and Gloucestershire Music to offer a two day string project in February 2017 where you will learn new music, improve your technique, work alongside professional musicians and have the opportunity to perform in Gloucester Cathedral.

Concerto Grosso by Vaughan Williams and From Sea and Sky by Jeff Moore, are both written to be performed by string players from beginner to professional standard, bringing together a huge number of musicians in one large ensemble.

A full rehearsal day will be held at Pates Grammar School on Monday 13th February followed by a full rehearsal at Gloucester Cathedral on Tuesday 14th February with a free concert to family and friends at 3pm on that day.

Junior Department Christmas Concerts

On Saturday 3rd December our Junior Department students will be holding a concert for all family and friends. Please come and join us for some festive fun and find out how much our students have enjoyed their music making this term. Gloucester Junior Department Concert will run from 9.30am until 12.30pm and the Cheltenham Junior Department Concert will run from 1.30pm until 3.30pm.

Monday String Zone @ Gloucestershire Academy of Music

In September 2016 Gloucestershire Academy of Music launched String Zone, the county's main string centre for all string players of grade 5 and above to Advanced level. With sessions on technique, chamber music and ensemble playing the String Zone offers unrivaled tuition in Gloucestershire. To find out more email

Advanced Strings Students Join Nicola Benedetti

Our Prima Corda advanced strings students were invited to attend a workshop run by Nicola Benedetti at All Saints Academy in July.The day provided a memorable experience with Nicola providing inspirational support for our young students.

Young Cellists from Gloucestershire Academy of Music join Gloucestershire Symphony Orchestra

On Saturday 21st May young cellists from Gloucestershire Academy of Music joined the Gloucestershire Symphony Orchestra to pay 'The Swan' from The Carnival of the Animals by SaŽns Saint.The students played to a full audience at Stroud Subscriptions Rooms.

Bursary Applications Available Now

The ĎGloucester Academy of Musicí Bursary fund is available to all students up to the age of 18 years at the beginning of the academic year being applied for. Although financial circumstances are taken into consideration, all applications are considered on an individual basis also taking into account the students aptitude for music making.

New and existing students can apply at any time of the year for assistance with term-time fees, and/or those to attend a holiday music courses with Gloucester Academy of Music. The application forms can be requested from our office or downloaded by clicking here. All applications should be returned in a sealed envelope marked 'Confidential' and addresssed to 'The Bursary Committee.

Our Popular GAM sessions now available in Cheltenham

Gloucester Academy of Music now offers a Junior department in Gloucester on a Saturday morning and in Cheltenham on a Saturday afternoon.

In Cheltenham we offer Singing & Rhythm Groups, Choir, String Ensembles and Chamber Music
