Meet our Welfare Team

We reckon our welfare team are the best!!   All are musicians and most were students in their younger days.   They know the ingredients that make our courses a success for all ages from 6-22+

We aim to have all our team on these pages eventually...   In the meantime, here are a few of our regulars who will be with us again in 2008.

Kate Lumsden

Kate has been coming to Beauchamp since she was a toddler and is still claiming to be ‘keeping the dream alive’.   Her parents set up the courses when she was 3 and she’s been spending most of her summer holidays in tents ever since.   Currently living in London and pretending to have a proper job she can often be found humming show tunes when she is supposed to be in meetings.   She is the proud inventor of the classic Beauchamp game ‘Bouncy Castle Musical Statues’.

Geoff Jones

Geoff Jones

Cellist and member of the National Youth Theatre, currently studying Mathematics at Cardiff University, and also studied on the inaugural voyage of The Scholar Ship.   He is an ex-member of Beauchamp and GAM and travelled to Australia and Italy with the senior Orchestra and Prima Corda respectively. Geoff is also currently a member of Splott State Circus, the training group for NoFit State Circus.

Geoff is experienced at working with children to produce great results, most recently in designing and implementing an outreach project in primary schools in south Gloucestershire.   This will be his second year as part of Welfare team, and having experienced the courses from the student’s point of view, understands better their needs.

Emily Smith

Emily Smith

Beauchamp House is where Emily’s love for music began.   She started playing the Trumpet here when she was 8 years old and whilst attending the music school every Saturday, was introduced to the residential courses.   She started with the weekend singing course, then the junior orchestra, intermediate orchestra and then the Jazz course which she has attended 5 times.   She is currently studying for her A levels and then wishes to volunteer at an orphanage for disabled children in Chile, during her gap year.   She then plans to go to University to study physiotherapy.

As well as playing the trumpet and piano, she has always liked a bit of karaoke!

Emily is a keen sportswoman. She not only likes the ‘normal’ sports, but enjoys Ultimate Frisbee, Sumo wrestling and human chess.

This will be Emily’s first time as a member of the welfare team.   She loves working with children and is very much looking forward to experiencing what she has put so many welfare staff members through in previous years!!!

Will Howick

Will Howick

Will has been coming to Beauchamp since he was 10.   Since then, he's been away to Nottingham University, where all of the good work that Beauchamp House had done over the years for his cello playing was gradually and systematically undone.

He's spent the last year attempting to become a grown-up.   This year, he plans to make it past the first round of either the Slam or the Table-Tennis tournaments, but still maintains that it's the taking part, and not the winning that counts.

Will is afraid of rabbits and toenails. He was dropped on his head as a baby.

Hannah (La La) Brooke

Hannah Brooke

Hi, I’m Hannah; I am 20 and have just finished my first year at The University of Birmingham where I have adopted the nickname “La La” - an apparent reference to my occasional over enthusiasm and excitability.   I play the cello in the university orchestra and in the Bearburga String Quartet.   I enjoy all sorts of music and sport, this year I have been trying out triathlon, water polo and marathon running.   I like potatoes, chocolate and crispy duck with pancakes.   Most of the time my favourite colour is red but I also like magenta.   I am looking forward to another fabulous summer on Beauchamp course and seeing you all there.   Have fun until then, much love Hannah x

Alice Howick

Alice Howick

Alice Howick has just finished studying Music at Cambridge and is heading to the Middle East in September to teach the violin.   She’s been going to Beauchamp since she was seven and she didn’t turn out too bad so they must be doing something right.

This is Alice’s second year as part of the Welfare team and she can’t wait for another round of those early morning breakfast wake-up calls!

Fun, fun, fun...!!!

During Beauchamp weeks everyone works hard to improve their musicianship and performance skills and enjoys making great music, but we know how to let our hair down too...!!!

Here are some of the photos of our moments of 'relaxation' in 2007.

Fun - Beauchamp style!!   Fun - Beauchamp style!!
